How Long Does a Gel Manicure Really Last?
By Valeria Gonzalez · Nail Specialist, Hollywood FL
It's one of the questions I hear most in the chair: "will it really last that long?" The short answer is yes — a properly applied gel manicure can last 2 to 3 weeks without chipping or losing its shine. But the real duration depends on a few factors worth knowing before your next appointment at Bella Ciao Salon & Spa.
What makes a gel last longer?
Nail prep is everything. A proper file, thoroughly pushed-back cuticles, and a quality base coat are the difference between a gel that lasts 10 days and one that lasts a full three weeks. I take the extra time on this step every appointment — it's the part that's least visible, but matters the most.
Factors that speed up wear
Constant contact with hot water, cleaning products without gloves, and the habit of using your nails as a "tool" (opening cans, scratching off labels) are the number one reasons a gel lifts before its time. If you work a lot with your hands in water, mention it at your appointment — I can adjust the product I use to give you more resistance.
Signs it's time for your fill
When you start seeing natural nail growing in at the base, or the gel starts feeling thicker and less flexible, it's time to book. Waiting too long between fills doesn't make it "last longer" — on the contrary, it increases the risk of weakening the natural nail underneath.
My recommendation
For most of my clients, the sweet spot is between 2.5 and 3 weeks. If yours are lifting much sooner than that, it's probably time to try a different product — let me know at your next visit and we'll look into it together.
